NEWBURGH – Tyhesha Garner of Newburgh wasted no time in delivering the bottled water she collected from Newburgh resident to the Flint, Michigan community that is faced with a contaminated water supply.
Garner spent all day Saturday collecting bottles of water, an estimated 15,000 of them, at the Newburgh recreation center and then packed them into a U-Haul truck and then took the 10-hour drive each way taking driving turns with a friend, to deliver them to the people of Flint.
“They didn’t realize how much it was, they thought it was just a little bit, but when they saw how much it was, they were in awe,” she said. “My community came together and showed up and I am really grateful.”
Garner collected 500 cases of water, plus smaller packages of individual bottles and several gallon jugs.
One contributor, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, brought 150 cases.
