Free parking on Main Street, for now
BEACON – The entire length of Main Street in the City of Beacon is free of parking meters, but that is likely to change later this year.
The city council is considering placing the revenue-generating devices in the business district. Mayor Randy Casale said details are being discussed.
“Whatever it brings in would only pay for the meters and be put into a dedicated fund that could only be used for parking costs and streetscapes on Main Street if there is any excess,” Casale said.
The estimated amount to be raised by the meters was not immediately available.
The cost of purchasing and installing the devices would be paid for with the revenue generated.
