NEWBURGH – Those Newburgh city employees who are not members of bargaining unions will receive a 2.5 percent pay raise. The city council approved the additional money, which returned those workers to 2011 levels when their salaries were reduced by five percent. Since then, half of the money was previously restored.
Mayor Judy Kennedy told fellow council members Monday night those employees deserve parity with union city workers.
“The people who stay extra hours, they don’t get overtime, they don’t get extra pay, but they are asked to do double duty and double work all the time and I really feel that we are being unfair to that non-bargaining unit by not bringing them back to parity with the rest of the employees of the city,” Kennedy said.
City Comptroller John Aber told the council that along with the increased pay, those managers would see an increase to the employee contribution to their health benefits and lose one holiday off.
