POUGHKEEPSIE – We may not have had the usual snow and cold weather
of a typical winter in the Mid-Hudson Valley, but flu season is right
around the corner, the Dutchess County Department of Behavioral and Community
Health says and officials are urging residents to get their flu shots.
“We are seeing an increase in flu cases both nationwide and throughout
New York State,” said County Commissioner Dr. Henry Kurban. “It
is important for everyone six months of age and older to be vaccinated
against the flu, especially those who are pregnant or at higher risk for
complications.”
Dr. Kurban said that to prevent transmission of illness to those who cannot
be vaccinated, a flu shot is recommended for close contacts such as caregivers
and family members of infants under six months of age.
