Two arrested in Ulster Jail contraband case

KINGSTON – Two people are under arrest following an investigation
into contraband in the Ulster County Jail.
Corrections personnel developed information that a woman had been passing
drugs to a sheriff’s corrections officer in the parking lot of the
law enforcement center in Kingston.

On Thursday at about 12:50 p.m. corrections personnel saw a woman later
identified as Dejah Babcock, 38, of Saugerties meet with Corrections Officer
Jason Hetrick, 35, in the parking lot of the center. Babcock was seen
passing an object to Hetrick.

When Hetrick was confronted, he was found in possession of a cigarette
pack containing loose tobacco, matches, a small quantity of marijuana
and 10 suboxone sublinqual strips.

Babcock was taken into custody in the parking lot and Hetrick was arrested
while entering the facility. Both were remanded in lieu of $50,000 cash
bail.

Both were charged with felonies of drug possession and promoting prison
contraband, misdemeanor promoting prison contraband and possession of
drugs as well as unlawful possession of marijuana.

Hetrick was also charged with official misconduct.
