CLERMONT – State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested a Long Island man on Saturday in connection with a one-car fatal accident on Route 9 in the Town of Clermont.
Troopers said an SUV driven by Andrew Casey, 22, of Sound Beach, ran off Route 9 northbound and struck several trees and a utility pole before coming to rest down an embankment.
A passenger, Andrew Clarke, 28, of Red Hook, was partially ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Casey, who police said had indications of intoxication, was placed in police custody and transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie with non-life threatening injuries.
Police charged Casey with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
