POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro announced on Friday the county’s enhanced commitment to equality for all of its residents with a number of human resources initiatives.
Molinaro rolled out his effort as the nation marks Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
“We are re-establishing the Dutchess County Human Rights Commission, we are creating a Workforce Diversity Task Force, we are hiring Jody Miller to serve as the county’s first human rights officer and equal opportunity officer, and we are implementing what is called ‘ban the box’ to end the discriminatory practice of precluding certain individuals from even being considered for employment before they have had the opportunity to be interviewed and considered for job opportunities,” the Republican exec said.
County Legislator Barbara Jeter-Jackson, a Democrat who represents the City of Poughkeepsie, said the human rights commission “provides our residents an opportunity to be heard and assisted when they believe they are facing issues of discrimination or injustice.”
