COLD SPRING – Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney will have a challenge within his own Democratic party this year.
Cold Spring Attorney Diana Hird is running in the 18th Congressional District June 28th primary election because she has “the knowledge, experience and track record to take back” the district.
Hird has practiced business law for 15 years, briefly worked on Wall Street and as an enforcement division attorney at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.  Most recently, Hird was a volunteer community advocate.
“Pretty much my political awakening happened this summer when I was volunteering and doing community advocacy work in the City of Newburgh and really saw how much the federal programs and the money coming from the federal programs was not reaching the people who needed it and I did a lot of freedom of information law requests and asking around and really felt the enormity of that,” she said.
Hird said she learned through her research that it is her belief that Maloney has not been representing the interests of the people of the district.
