MONTICELLO – Monticello resident Yahya Robinson, 30, was sentenced
in Sullivan County Court on Friday to 25 years in state prison and five
years of post-release supervision for killing 33-year-old Shereem Burch,
also of Monticello, on August 7, 2014.
Robinson pled guilty to one count of manslaughter and admitted to fatally
stabbing Burch after a dispute at the West Broadway Villas in Monticello,
where Burch lived.
The murder weapon, a knife, was recovered in an apartment where Robinson
was hiding after the stabbing.
District Attorney James Farrell said the case was cracked by good, old
fashioned police work. Monticello Police, State Police and the DA’s
Office investigated the case.
“A young man’s life was taken, senselessly, and for that Robinson
has been held accountable with a sentence of 25 years in prison,”
Farrell said.
