Westchester BioScience and Technology Center site plan

WHITE PLAINS – Fareri Associates wants to develop a $1.2 billion biotechnology research facility on Westchester County-owned land on the Grasslands Reservation adjacent to Westchester Medical Center and New York Medical College.  The proposed Westchester BioScience and Technology Center will be an almost three million square foot, mixed-use complex on 80 acres.
County Executive Robert Astorino made the announcement on Thursday
“It is going to add 12,000 jobs – 4,000 of them construction, 8,000 of those permanent, good paying jobs in the biotech sector,” Astorino said.  “It will have a hotel, some retail and medical facilities, which is the main focus of that. It’s really something that is going to help the economy. It will give an opportunity for today’s high school kids, when they come home from college, four, five, six, seven years from now, they will have good paying jobs waiting for them.”
Fareri Associates owns 20 acres next to the 60 acres of county land, which it would rent from the county under a long-term lease.
The county board of legislators and Town of Mount Pleasant must approve the plan.
Astorino said the project would mean $9 million in estimated new real estate taxes annually to the county, town and local school district; $7 million in estimated new annual rent to the county; relationships between Westchester Med and providers and inventors of cutting-edge medical technologies and innovations; creating job opportunities for students in the emerging bioscience field; an creating a new Children’s Living Science Center.
