Clancy was sworn in as chief in February 2012

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – After more than 41 years as a police officer, Newburgh Town Police Chief Michael Clancy will retire next Wednesday, January 13.
Clancy started his career as a City of Newburgh officer and after five
years, move to Newburgh Town Police where he worked up the ranks to become
chief some five years ago.
When he first started, Clancy said there were few technological tools to aid law enforcement, but that has changed and has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years to the point where social media, smart phones with video capabilities and other advances are keeping a watchful eye on police activities.
“You are under a microscope – you were always under a microscope – but there have been some unfortunate incidents around the country in the last year-and-a-half that really have the population looking closer at what the police are doing and how they operate,” Clancy said. “Police have to work together with the community that they serve.”
Deputy Police Chief Donald “Bruce” Campbell is expected to be named acting chief and he is on the civil service list for the permanent job.
