NEWBURGH – Construction
of the Montreign casino is expected to employ over 1,000 workers and that
project, which will begin soon, coupled with several others, will likely
max out the rolls of the trades unions, Hudson Valley Construction Trades
Council President Todd Diorio predicts.
He said a number of projects will keep labor working for years.
“CPV is going right now. They are going to start concrete work there shortly. We have a lot of work at West Point. We have the casino,” Diorio said. “While the continued work on the new Tappan Zee Bridge is outside his trades’ council territory, there are a number of union locals that overlap territories. “There is a lot of work lined up in the Hudson Valley. It looks like the next couple of years are going to be very lucrative for the building trades in the Hudson Valley.”
Diorio, who is also the head of Local 17 of the Laborers Union, said they are recruiting new members in many trades and providing them the training and schooling for them to be productive members.
