TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – This is the time of year when chimney fires and carbon monoxide poisonings occur from fireplaces, wood stoves and the like.
Arlington Fire Chief Tory Gallante reminds residents across the region how to prevent tragedy.
“Check your smoke detectors and CO detectors. Make sure that your heating equipment is serviced and in good operating condition and make sure you have a plan to exit your home in the event of a fire,” Gallante said.
If you haven’t replaced the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors since last winter, it is time to do it now, fire officials advise.
