CRAWFORD – The man who was stabbed to death at a Town of Crawford New Year’s Day party was a four-year member of the Silver Lake Fire Department in the Town of Wallkill.
Justin Speights was 20 years old.  He was trying to break up a fight when he was stabbed.
State Police said he was at a party attended by dozens of people at a Paddock Drive residence in Crawford when the fatal incident occurred shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day.
His death is being investigated as a homicide by troopers and Crawford Town Police.
PleightS graduated with honors from Pine Bush High School in 2014. As
a member of the fire department, he was “a hardworking and dedicated
young man who would always be willing to help out his community and fellow
firefighters,” said fire department spokesman Jeff Jaques. “He
would always be one of the first to step up to the plate no matter what
the task may be. He had a bright future that was tragically taken away
far too soon.”
