ARLINGTON – A three-alarm fire early Tuesday morning claimed the life of one person in the Arlington Fire District of the Town of Poughkeepsie.
Chief Tory Gallante said the blaze, which broke out shortly before 5 a.m., was in a single-family house at 31 Durocher Terrace. Firefighters arrived on the scene within three minutes of the call and found heavy fire and smoke conditions.
During the interior search, they found one person, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
One officer from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police was treated as Vassar Brothers Medical Center for a smoke-related injury and was later released.
Two adjacent homes sustained heat damage.
The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation by the Arlington Fire District Fire Investigation Division and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
Arlington firefighters were assisted at the scene by firefighters from the City of Poughkeepsie, LaGrange, Pleasant Valley, and Roosevelt fire departments as well as Mobile Life Support Services, Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, building department, highway department and water department, Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office and Central Hudson Gas and Electric. New Hamburg and LaGrange fire departments were on standby at Arlington stations.
