WAWAYANDA – Police shut down Interstate 84 and Route 17M in both directions in the vicinity of exit 4 on the interstate in the Town of Wawayanda when they received a report of a man standing on top of his car while holding a gun on the Route 17M overpass of I-84.
The report came into the police around 5:11 p.m. on Thursday. Within 15 minutes police shut down both roads, but when officers arrived on the scene, the person was gone. Police searched the immediate area and when nothing unusual was found, the roads were reopened.
Agencies called up to investigate included the State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Middletown City Police. Mobile Life Support Services was also put on notice in the event an ambulance was needed.
