CARMEL – A Poughkeepsie man, wanted for a state parole violation, was arrested after he was caught shoplifting from a Carmel supermarket.
Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a report of a dispute in the parking lot of the ShopRite store where an employee had confronted a shoplifter. The suspect fled on foot, but was apprehended by deputies.
He was identified as Thomas McNulty, 48, of 35 Davis Avenue in Poughkeepsie, who was wanted by the state Division of Parole.  He was brought back to the supermarket where he was identified by employees who had observed him placing $1,100 worth of stolen items into a vehicle belonging to a friend. The groceries were recovered along with other merchandise that had been stolen from the Acme Supermarket in Mahopac.
McNulty was charged with felony grand larceny and remanded to the Putnam County Jail pending further action from the state Division of Parole.  If found guilty on the current grand larceny charge, he could face up to four years in state prison.
