KINGSTON – Outgoing Kingston Mayor Shayne Gallo vowed to file suit
in State Supreme Court against those involved in developing the plan to
remodel the canopy system in front of stores in the Uptown Business District.
Gallo is frustrated by the poor work done on the awning system and he knows who he may target in the suit.
“The parties would probably include architects, contractor (and) construction supervisor,” he said on Tuesday.
Gallo has already vetoed a new fee the common council was going to levy on businesses in that area to cover the cost of the work.
“We are talking about a $2 million project that unfortunately, I don’t know where it is going literally because you are talking about, literally, hundreds of thousands of dollars that are going to have to be used to be spent on fixing this,” Gallo said.
Incoming Mayor Steven Noble said he plans on meeting with the business
owners and weighing his options before he makes any decision about the
future of the canopy.
