Fatal car-truck crash in northern Dutchess

POUGHKEEPSIE – The driver
of a car in which two small children were passengers was killed around
9 a.m. on Saturday when it collided with a dump truck full of gravel head-on.

The accident occurred in the Town of Washington on Route 44 near Bontecou
Road.

The two children in the car were injured and transported to MidHudson
Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie and later flown to Westchester Medical
Center in Valhalla.

Investigation by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office showed the
car appeared to have crossed into the truck’s lane of travel when
it was struck. Route 44 between Little Rest Road and Kennels Road was
closed for investigation through the afternoon.
The names of those involved were being withheld pending notification
of relatives.

The investigation is continuing by the sheriff’s office Crash Investigation
Unit and Detective Division, who were assisted at the scene by the State
Police, Millbrook Fire Department and Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s
Office.

The sheriff’s office is interested in speaking to any possible witnesses
to the crash or who may have been in the area at the time. They are requested
