GOSHEN – The Orange County Legislature is poised to approve the appropriation of $11 million to complete a project that will improve communications between public safety agencies.
County Emergency Services Commissioner Walter Koury said the money will pay for all system components including radios and tower infrastructure equipment.
“The currently leased private solution used by over half of the police departments in the county is going to have an end of life in 2017,” Koury said.  “We still have a significant number of radio gaps in coverage across the county for public safety agencies.”
Koury said there is a lack of inter-operability between some of the police agencies and fire companies, but interdisciplinary inter-operability “doesn’t exist for the most part.”
