NEWBURGH – Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY18) is supporting a certification process to existing federal refugee acceptance protocols in the wake of the terrorist attacks on Paris.
It has been learned that at least one of the terrorists entered Paris along with refugees and the US, along with other countries, has been accepting hundreds, and thousands, of refugees from the war torn Middle East.
Maloney voted for that legislation in the House this week.
“I think it’s disgusting and reprehensible that there are people out there running for president and playing politics by denigrating and further victimizing a population of people who have already been through a lot,” the Congressman said.  “It is wrong and we must not stop letting refugees in and we must not turn our backs on people who are victims of war. But, the American people also have the right to know that when we tell them we have a good screening process that government officials aren’t afraid to put their name on the line and be accountable,”
Maloney said the president, the speaker of the House and majority leader of the Senate should work to create a “reasonable compromise” on certification to “focus on the real threats, which are frankly not in this area.”
