GOSHEN – A Goshen Town Board member will now become an Orange County legislator.  With the change, the Republicans pick up a seat.
Philip Canterino will have to step down from his town post now that Goshen, Blooming Grove and Wawayanda town boards have voted to name him to fill a vacant county legislative seat.
Shannon Wong, a Democrat, resigned from her county post recently when she accepted a full-time job.
Republican Canterino will serve through the end of next year and will have to run in the November general election should he want to continue in that role.
Once Canterino takes his seat, Republicans will increase their majority to 12, with eight Democrats and one Independent.
