ACCORD – Town of Ulster Police arrested an Accord man for allegedly stealing 56 pieces of lumber meant for Christmas tree stands from the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot.
The Boy Scouts of America were planning to use the wood to construct the stand until a representative reported it missing on November 12.
Through the investigation police were able to identify a pickup truck that had been seen leaving the parking lot after a man loaded wood into the bed of the vehicle.  With the assistance of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the truck with lumber still in the bed, was located at the home of Eugene Dewitt, Jr., 49.
Dewitt was arrested and charged with petit larceny.  The wood was returned in time to build the stands and sell the trees.
