MAHOPAC – A Mahopac woman died when the car in which she was riding was broadsided as the driver pulled onto Route 6 in Mahopac in front of an oncoming vehicle.
State Police said Anna Estrada, 53, of Carmel, was exiting a parking area to make a left turn onto Route 6 and failed to yield the right of way to a van driven by Richard O’Keefe, who was traveling on Route 6. His vehicle struck Estrada’s, causing it to overturn. Frances Ghelarducci of Mahopac, a rear seat passenger in her vehicle, was killed.
Two other passengers and the driver, all of Mahopac, were transported to Westchester Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
O’Keefe and a 30-year-old male passenger were not injured, but police observed clues indicating O’Keefe was intoxicated. He was later arrested and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
O’Keefe is in the Putnam County Jail in lieu of$50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
