MIDDLETOWN – The Middletown
Common Council is expected to approve the hiring of a contractor to transform
the short King Street into a pedestrian mall in the city’s downtown.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the council should approve a contractor tomorrow (Tuesday).
“We are vetting all of the bidders now to verify that their bids are accurate and correct and we will have a recommendation on Tuesday,” DeStefano said.  “The low bid will probably come in at about $250,000.”
The short street connecting the James Street parking lot and North Street
will be converted into a pedestrian friendly oasis that will include benches,
tables and new trees and other landscaping.
