Man charged with stealing pocketbook during funeral

ELLENVILLE – An Ellenville man has been
charged with stealing a pocketbook from the parking lot of a funeral home
while a funeral was taking place inside.

The suspect, David Barnes, 28, was spotted by an off-duty Town of Poughkeepsie
police officer, who was attending the funeral at Loucks Funeral Home.
Barnes took off on a bicycle and the officer called Ellenville Village
Police.
Officers located Barne, after he ditched the
bike and was attempting to get rid of his jacket and hide behind a business
on Route 209. He was arrested without incident and all of the proceeds
from the crime were recovered.

Barnes was charged with petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property
and for being a parole absconder.
He was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail pending a future
court appearance.
