NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh has a series of taxicab rules in place but the question is, are cabbies following those rules?  The subject was the topic of discussion at Thursday night’s city council workshop session.
Councilwoman Jeannie Abrams outlined what she is hearing.
“A lot of them seem to be violating common rules of traffic, going through traffic stops – lights, stop signs, failing to signal and that kind of thing,” Abrams said.
Police Chief Daniel Cameron said his officers are cracking down cabbies.
In 2014, for the entire year were 32 arrests of taxi drivers. 2015 for
the first 10 months of this year, it has been 95, so it has more than
tripled trying to deal with the taxicab situation, Cameron said.
The paint job is another concern.  Councilman Cedric Brown said while all cabs are supposed to be yellow, some are not.
