GOSHEN – Demolition of section two of the Orange County Government
Center in Goshen began Friday morning with a giant crane ripping down
chunks of the building.

The company will work through the weekend in hopes of demolishing the
center portion as soon as possible.

Demolition continues throughout the day

“This is real progress for a government center that has been closed
for four years,” said County Executive Steven Neuhaus, who expected
to award bids before the end of the year for the actual construction portion
of the project, which will take 18 to 24 months. The entire project is
estimated at some $70 million.

Once rebuilt, all of the county offices that were moved out to other county
buildings and rented office space will be moved into the new building.

They will include Neuhaus’ office and the Department of Motor Vehicles.
