WOODBURY – A Highland Mills man, who is a New York City police officer, is in Westchester Medical Center with head trauma and internal injuries after the Jeep he was driving struck the rear of a car while the two vehicles were northbound on the Thruway Sunday night.
State Police said the accident occurred around 8:35 p.m. between Exit 15A in Sloatsburg and Exit 16 in Harriman.
The preliminary investigation determined the Jeep, driven by off-duty NYPD Officer Alexis Penate, 32, struck the rear of a car driven by Aaron Jeronimus, 29, of Wallkill.  Penate lost control, rolling several times and was ejected. He was listed in critical condition at the hospital.
Jeronimus and a passenger in his car were uninjured.
