POUGHKEEPSIE – It was mostly
‘girl power’ in a banquet room at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel
Tuesday morning, as Democratic Dutchess County executive candidate Diane
Jablonski got help from New York’s Lieutenant Governor, Kathleen
Hochul, with about 50 party faithful, women and men, cheering them on.
“We did pass the women’s equality agenda which does protect women’s rights across the state, making New York State a leader,” Hochul said.  “So that’s what you run on, Democrats; you run on how we respect women in our state, how you take care of them.  We actually have a radical idea – women should get paid the same as men for the same work.  How about that?”
Jablonski, who served three years as county comptroller, said that agenda is getting solid attention, at least among almost half of the county legislature.
“With the 11 women county legislators, we have formed a bond and are really working together to bring the women’s agenda forward,” Jablonski said.
According to the county legislature web page, there are 10 women on the current Dutchess County Legislature, and three are Republicans.
Jablonski, who is challenging Republican incumbent Marcus Molinaro called him a man “who won’t talk about what he believes in.”
