PINE ISLAND – The Pine Island area of the Town of Warwick is noted for its rolling acres of black dirt, home to onion and lettuce farms.
It is now also becoming known for a micro-brewery. Pine Island Brewery, opened on Saturday, is located in the old Pine Island firehouse on County Route 1.
Its owner, Michael Kraai, lives just over the state line in northern New Jersey.
“I just fell in love with the area. I think the beautiful rolling hills, the black dirt region; it was kind of calling out to me for a micro-brewery, so I fell in love with the area. I always wanted to open a micro-brewery. New York laws were advantageous so I found myself here.”
Kraai, who is a CPA, features six beers on tap including the seasonal Pumpkin Spice Ale, along with Pine Island India Pale Ale, Pine Island Scottish Ale, and others.
