SCHAGHTICOKE – An equipment
barge used in the GE dredging project partially sank in the Hudson River
of Schaghticoke in Rensselaer County Sunday morning, the EPA reported
Monday. It was later refloated.

There was equipment on the barge including an excavator and a generator.
The generator contained a 27-gallon fuel tank, which submerged and lost
approximately 15 gallons of fuel.

GE contractors are conducting the cleanup of the spill, which left a visible
sheen but is not expected to have a significant impact in the river, the
EPA said.

The federal agency and the state Department of Environmental Conservation
were onsite continuing to oversee the work.
