MILLBROOK – A LaGrange man was arrested on a burglary charge on Wednesday after he allegedly broke into one Millbrook church and tried to gain entry into another. Randy Bowen, Jr., 31, was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child as he left a two-year-old alone in his car as he attempted to break into one of the churches.
Church staff first alerted troopers that someone had broken into Saint Joseph’s Church by damaging the locked doors. Staff saw him sitting in a pew and knew he was not a parishioner. The man then left the church and was observed in the parking area with a small child.
A short time later, police were contacted to conduct a welfare check of an unattended child in a vehicle of the same description in the area of Grace Episcopal Church in Millbrook. Investigation revealed Bowen had left the child alone in the car as he attempted to break into Grace Church.
Further investigation revealed Bowen was responsible for a burglary on September 6 at the Blessed Kateri Church in LaGrange. He was charged on Thursday with burglary and criminal mischief for burglarizing that church.
Bowen is in the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
