Sloatsburg man kills wife, turns gun on himself

SLOATSBURG – Ramapo Police
are continuing to investigate an apparent murder-suicide that occurred
minutes before 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

William Groesbeck, 69, is believed to have shot his wife, Patricia Nigro,
64, to death, and then took his own life, police said.

Officers were called to their home at 3 Adams Court in the Village of
Sloatsburg by a friend who told them Groesbeck was distressed and may
need police assistance.

As officers pulled up to the scene, they heard a gunshot inside the home.

Additional officers were called in to secure the neighborhood. The Ramapo
Emergency Response Team entered the house and found both husband and wife
dead.
Police said the incident appears to have been a murder-suicide, but
the exact cause of death will be determined by the county Medical Examiner’s
Office.

The incident is under investigation by the Ramapo Police Detective Division.
Assisting them at the scene were Tuxedo Town Police, State Park Police
and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.
