GOSHEN – Orange may make
a pitch after Town of Haverstraw, in Rockland, turned down the theme park
decision not to pursue a Legoland resort, Orange County will pitch
the company to set up shop to the north of Rockland County.
Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus confirmed a number of communities
in the county “are rolling out the red carpet” to attract
the entertainment venue.  He said the county has some strong sites
that would be suitable.
“When you had that craze for the casinos last year, you had a lot of communities in Orange County that bent over backwards to get projects approved, so you have sites near New Windsor, you have sites near Woodbury,” he said.  “You also have some very pro-economic development communities like Chester and Wallkill that would all be, I believe, some places that are worth looking at and I think that would be a great spot for Legoland.”
Neuhaus said the effort is in the early stages, but the county has already reached out to the developer in hopes of opening a dialogue to show them what Orange County has to offer.
