NEW CITY – Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco III announced the availability of a Text-to-911 emergency contact system in the county.  The system gives mobile phone users the ability to reach 911 emergency call-takers via a short text message.
Rockland is one of seven counties in the state, and the only one in the Hudson Valley, to use the program..
“For people who find themselves in emergency situations in which they cannot pick up a phone and speak to a 911 operator, but they can text, the availability of Text-to-911 could be the difference that helps save a life,” Falco said on Tuesday.
Adam Feuer, chief of the sheriff’s communications division, said people should “call if you can; text if you can’t.”
