New Golden Ridge apartments in the Town of Thompson

TOWN OF THOMPSON – The first units in a 342-unit apartment complex
in the Town of Thompson was dedicated Tuesday. The homes, being constructed
by developer Jonah Mandelbaum, will provide workforce housing, and apartments
for senior citizens, veterans, and the disabled.

The facility will open new opportunities for their clients, said Access
Supports for Living President Amy Anderson-Winchell.

“This is life changing for people to be able to move to great levels
of independence, to be part of wonderful communities and still receive
the supports that they need to have a great life,” she said.
Originally, Mandelbaum negotiated a payment in lieu of taxes agreement
for $64,000 per year, but Town Supervisor William Rieber talked with him
about increasing that.

“Originally he had a PILOT agreement for a 40-year flat tax amount
and we did discuss it and I was a little unhappy with the fact that it
didn’t build in an increase to we increased it so that over the
course of 40 years, there will be a 40-percent increase in the PILOT at
one percent per year,” Rieber said.
The supervisor said it may not translate into a lot of money, but it
shows the good will of Mandelbaum.
Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther said the housing is another step forward
in the growth of the county and support for those in need of good housing.
