Fatal crash shuts down I-84 for hours

TOWN OF WALLKILL – A Warwick man was killed Monday afternoon when his car struck a bridge abutment on I-84 in the Mechanicstown section of the Town of Wallkill.
The crash, before 1 p.m., claimed the life of David Newsome, 19, of Warwick, police said. Traffic in both directions on the highway was shut down for hours as police and emergency responders investigated.
The cause of the crash has not been determined.
