NEW CITY – Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder called on County Executive Edwin Day to prepare a new proposed 2016 county budget.
Wieder said on Friday the currently proposed spending plan includes one-shot revenues and fails to include any money to pay down the deficit as required by county law.
The legislator said the Rockland County Deficit Reduction Act, which
was adopted in 2012 and amended in 2014, says the county budget must include
a minimum of $4 million to pay down the existing county deficit along
with payments that must be made toward the $96 million deficit bond approved
by the state in 2014.
Day’s budget includes no money to pay down the deficit.
Day’s $723 million budget calls for the closure of the Summit Park nursing home facilities following announcement that the prospective buyer of the facilities had pulled out of the deal.
As a result, Day proposed eliminating 326 jobs. The county property tax would increase under five-percent.
