POUGHKEEPSIE – A Beacon woman has been arrested by the Dutchess
County sheriff’s Office and charged with larceny and welfare fraud.

In October 2014, the sheriff’s office began an investigation into
the theft of daycare benefits and determined that Cindy Rivera, 37, was
a suspect.

She was arrested on September 30 and charged with grand larceny and welfare
fraud, both as felonies.

She allegedly stole over $41,000 in daycare benefits over a one-year period
by continuing to collect the benefits while concealing the fact that her
husband was home and able to watch their kids.

Mrs. Rivera was arraigned and released to reappear in Poughkeepsie City
Court at a later date.
