White Plains firefighter sentenced for vehicular homicide

WHITE PLAINS – A White Plains firefighter, who pled guilty to aggravated
vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal accident, was sentenced
to five to 15 years in state prison.

Erik Refvik, 35, of White Plains, was sentenced Friday on his plea to
four counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, vehicular
assault, aggravated DWI, two counts of DWI, driving while ability impaired
by drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving
and vehicle and traffic infractions.

Killed in the November 3, 2014 crash in which Refvik was driving was Reyda
La Madrid.

Refvik was driving his SUV at 65 MPH when he collided with a car at a
traffic light, killing the passenger and seriously injuring the driver.

Over the course of 12 hours before the collision, he was seen on video
drinking at a number of bars in downtown White Plains.
