TOWN OF WALLKILL – For the fourth year in a row, Wallkill Town Supervisor Daniel Depew has proposed a budget that comes in under the state tax cap.
Depew unveiled his proposed $14.2 million general fund spending plan and over $5.6 million highway budget for 2016 on Thursday evening.
The general fund budget goes up over this year’s by only $149,000 while the highway budget decreases by $43,000, he said.
“We will be under a half percent increase, so less than a half percent in taxes to cover some substantial progress and services here in the town and maintain the quality of life that we have been able to create over the last few years,” the supervisor said.
The tax levy will rise by 0.41 percent, raising only $100,000 more in
2016. That is nickels more in taxes for the average homeowner, Depew said.
The new budget, subject to town board approval, would provide funding for new highway equipment and vehicles, pay for the town to purchase the Korn Campgrounds, add another $100,000 for road paving, a seventh police sergeant to reduce overtime and acquisition of the Bloomingburg Cemetery.
