OSSINING – Authorities have charged a corrections officer at Sing
Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining with misdemeanor assault and harassment
as a violation.
State Police were notified in May by the state prisons department of an
allegation of excessive force used by a corrections officer.
Following a joint investigation, it was discovered that prison guard Lavar
Thomas, 36, of New York City, allegedly struck a male inmate several times
without provocation causing minor injury.
Thomas was arraigned and released on his own recognizance pending a future
court appearance.
