Retired Supreme Court Justice Patsalos dies

Judge Peter Patsalos

NEWBURGH – Former Orange County State Supreme Court Justice Peter Patsalos died on Saturday, September 19. He was 86.
Patsalos had a 43-year history of public service. He began his career as a teacher at North Junior High School in Newburgh prior to establishing his legal career in private practice.  He served as a Newburgh City councilman, attorney for the Newburgh School Board, a Newburgh City Court judge, Orange County Court judge and later State Supreme Court justice.
Following his retirement from the bench, he served as a judicial hearing officer and referee in discovery, and served as a mediator and arbitrator. For the past 10 years, he was of counsel to a private law firm.
Justice Patsalos is survived by his four children and their spouses and five grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh with entombment following in Cedar Hill Mausoleum in Newburgh.
