KINGSTON – Ulster County
Executive Michael Hein, who is seeking reelection in November, is working
with the League of Women Voters to select a date for a debate with challenger,
Republican Terry Bernardo.
She claims an October 19 date was tentatively set, but Hein said that was only an offered option.
“My main focus is my continuing efforts for the people of Ulster County,” Hein said on Monday. Finalizing the 2016 county budget with “consistent efforts of lowering the county property tax while ensuring more services” is his goal.
Bernardo, a former county legislator and chairwoman, said Hein has not been in contact with the league, but he said he will debate, but must work out the date and time.
“It’s important that as many voters as possible have an opportunity to question and hear from the candidates,” Bernardo said. “Debates are an integral part of that process.”
Hein said he can’t agree more. He said he will work out a time and place for a discussion with Bernardo.
