Two arrested for illegal gun possession

NEWBURGH – Two men were
arrested by Newburgh Police Saturday evening when they responded to a
report of a possible gun fight in the area of South and Chambers streets.

Police observed two men acting suspiciously and in a manner as if they
were attempting to conceal something.

Officers Joseph Palermo and Najjah Scott approached a man, later identified
as Nigel Elmore, 21, of Newburgh, who turned from them and tossed a loaded
40 caliber semi-automatic handgun onto the floor.

He was taken into custody and officers found 2.4 grams of crack cocaine
on him.

Elmore was charged with weapon and drug possession, both as felonies.

Officers William Lahar and Brett Layne, meanwhile, stopped and interviewed
Delondre Rickett, 23, of Newburgh, who was found in possession of a loaded
38 caliber revolver in his waistband.

He was charged with felony weapon possession and unlawful possession of
marijuana.

Officers found no evident of shots being fired prior to their arrival.
