GOSHEN – The day after the Monroe Town Board approved the annexation of 164 acres of land to the Hasidic Village of Kiryas Joel, Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus said on Wednesday the county will be exploring legal action to block the land transfer.
Municipalities in the area are also looking into suing.  Neuhaus said there are a number of problems with the environmental assessment of the annexation.
“We have identified 12 significant environmental issues that we believe are going to be significantly impacted in a negative way by the annexation with, in particular, sewer and infrastructure, and it hasn’t been addressed properly. We do reserve that right and we do have an obligation to all citizens both within and outside the Village of Kiryas Joel,” the county exec said.
Neuhaus said the county legislature is onboard with concerns about the annexation.
The county has 30 days in which to file a legal case.
