GOSHEN – Mosquito pools tested in the City of Middletown and Town of Newburgh have tested positive for West Nile virus, Orange County officials said Wednesday.
This is the season for the risk of catching the illness from infected mosquitoes.
The discovery of the West Nile virus is a reminder it is still present and a risk, said County Health Commissioner Dr. Eli Avila.  He advises people to minimize outdoor activities between dusk and dawn; to wear shoes and socks, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt when you go outside; dispose of contained that hold water and drill holes in the bottoms of recycling containers that are kept outdoors.
The threat of West Nile virus will remain until the first frost that kills mosquitoes.
