Poughkeepsie woman charged with stealing unemployment benefits

POUGHKEEPSIE – A Poughkeepsie woman is charged with felony grand larceny for collecting over $8,200 worth of state unemployment benefits to which she was not entitled.
State Police also charged Renee Smith, 35, with offering a false instrument for filing and falsifying business records, also felonies.  She is accused of collecting unemployment insurance between September 2012 and April 2013 while she allegedly generated false business records certifying weekly that she was totally unemployed when she was, in fact, gainfully employed.
Smith was released on her own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
