KENT – Boy Scout Explorer division members gathered at the Putnam County Fire Training Center this past weekend for the 14th annual Explorer Training and Campout.
This year, 165 future members of the emergency services came together to learn dedication, teamwork, leadership and communication skills and to make long lasting friendships.
The girls and boys, ages 14 to 18, are sponsored by local fire departments. The Explorers came from Dutchess, Rockland, Putnam Westchester, Albany and Nassau counties.
The weekend was dedicated to Robert McMahon, a former Putnam commissioner of emergency services and a retired Lake Carmel fire chief, who died in October 2013.

The drill included putting on proper gear, even on a hot day, and learning rescue maneuvers
